SantaCon what is it?
Santacon is an event that takes place in several cities across the world, it’s a convention for Santa’s, a day of craziness and fun when a group of men and women dress up as Santa.
A SantaCon is simply a gathering of people dressed as Santa, elves, reindeer and the odd Christmas tree and if it’s open to the public so anyone can join in.
The London SantaCon like the others has become bigger and bigger with around 4000 Santa’s hitting the capital starting in 4 locations eventually meeting up in a single location, its not really a march more of a walk taking in the odd pub along the way and with some Santa’s flagging and not making it to the final point. In the past the final point has been locations like Covent Garden, Hyde Park and Trafalgar square with the start and end locations being kept very quiet until just a few days before.
2016 London SantaCon saw a move to registration so if you were registered you received the information for start points as to keep numbers manageable as SantaCon organisers are required so any volunteers to help guide and keep the Santa’s walking to the next stop-offs and locations is essential. You can volunteer here on SantaCon’s Facebook page.
Traditionally SantaCon is free event and takes place in London, New York and several other cities in USA, Berlin, Hanoi, Helsinki and Phuket.
The first SantaCon took place in San Francisco in 1994 and was sponsored by The San Francisco Cacophony Society. The original inspiration came from an earlier SF adventure club called The Suicide Club who’s founder came up with the idea after reading an article about a Danish political who mobbed a Copenhagen Department store just before Christmas. However, the first American and all subsequent SantaCons around the world are non-political. Read More at SantaCon

This will be my fourth year at SantaCon, attending with a group of friends and making lots of new friends, meeting Santa/Santa’s, reindeer, elves (don’t go as an elf!) and other fun characters, it’s a blast!!
