Margate Soul Festival 2016, what a great weekend of Soul, Jazz Funk, R&B and Latin grooves.
The Margate Soul Festival has been running for 10 years now and runs over a 3 day weekend in August. Once again the weather was fantastic with blue sky and sunshine for the whole weekend.
The festival takes place these days in two locations, in the town near the sea front and finishing with concerts each day at the Margate Winter Gardens.
During the day the event takes place in a number of locations in bars and along the sea front and pier with top DJ’s playing sets from midday, the beauty is that anyone passing can just join in the fun and dance in the street and bars around the area to fantastic soul and funk track classics. What a great way to spend an afternoon.
As the day progresses those that have purchased tickets for the event can then move on to the Winter Gardens to party and watch live artists in concert outside and on the main stage as the evening progresses. This year saw legends Jean Carne with great tracks such as ‘Was that all it Was’ and ‘Closer than Close’ , Shirley Jones (Mary Jones Girl’s) tracks such as ‘Night’s Over Egypt’ and ‘With You’. Followed by ‘The British Collective’ featuring: Junior Giscombe, Omar, Don-E and Noel Mckoy.
Sunday proved to be an amazing night also with CeCe Peniston with ‘Finally’, ‘Keep on Walking’, ‘We got a Love Thing’ and many more. Kathy Sledge (Sisters Sledge) with tracks like ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer’, ‘We are Family’, ‘Los in Music and many more. The show finished off with ‘Soul 2 Soul’ with great tracks such as ‘Back to Life’, ‘Keep on Movin’, ‘Holdin On’ and many more.
Margate Soul Festival 2016 weekend was fantastic and I was surprised that I thought ‘Kathy Sledge’ just topped it for me as it was a real show, great sets with amazing backing dancers, even grabbing people from the audience who could dance to dance during ‘The Greatest Dancer’, I may have been sitting in the pit front stage at that point but I was itching to get up on that stage!
Excellent Weekend.
