Summer Soulstice 2017 was once again an amazing day for those that went, with a great line-up of DJ’s and some great live acts on the main stage.

Back in 2007 the family and friends of Andy Weekes who had sadly died of cancer in 2006, organised the first Summer Soulstice as a tribute to him. After more than a decade the event has become a popular yearly all-dayer on the soul music scene which continues to support ‘Cherry Lodge Cancer Care’ and two other worthwhile causes.

Once again this year’s Summer Soulstice was a sell-out and saw ‘Aisling Iris’, ‘Steve Arrington’ and ‘Shaun Escoffrey’ performing live on the main stage.

Aisling Iris at Summer Soulstice

First up this year was ‘Aisling Iris’ an Irish singer, songwriter, born to a jazz singing and piano playing mother.  Aisling performed a number of jazzy ballads which included some great scatting and was well received. These include songs from her latest album ‘Night Time Moves’ released December 2016.

Steve Arrington at Summer Soulstice

Suddenly it got pretty funky when Steve Arrington took to the stage! Steve was originally the drummer in the band ‘Slave’ and after a time took over as lead vocalist in the band. At Summer Soulstice he performed Slave hits ‘Just a Touch of Love’, ‘Wait for Me’ and my personal favourite ‘Watching You’ to a highly appreciative audience.

In 1982 to he left ‘Slave’ to pursue a solo career with hits that included ‘Dancin’ in the key of life’ and ‘Feel so real’ which he also performed along with others.

Steve Arrington’s first trip to the UK in 10 years proved to be a fantastic experience from the man with some great tunes under his belt.

Shaun Escoffrey at Summer Soulstice

Headlining this year was British R&B singer Shaun Escoffrey who has released some superb albums during his short career to date. Shaun is also known for his role of ‘Musafa’ in the hit musical ‘Lion King’

He performed some great tunes including ‘Space Rider’ which was his first major release and many others from his albums’

The track that he is most known for on the soul scene is ‘Days like this’ which had the audience dancing around like mad.

This was a great performance and a fantastic end to a superb day.
